Calling All Angels believes in saving children and helping them succeed. They found Covenant House Michigan, a local 501(c)3 that serves homeless and at-risk youth, and fell in love with its mission. Covenant House Michigan (CHM) is a sanctuary for young people who have nowhere to go. Kids who come to CHM’s doors have been abused and neglected, have slept on friends’ couches or in abandoned buildings. Covenant House provides shelter, educational and vocational programs, as well as other support services to help youth overcome hurdles such as homelessness, unemployment, inadequate education, violence, drugs and gangs.
Last year's event raised over $200,000 and was used to help hundreds of young people receive shelter, food, schooling and job opportunities. Let me share the story of one of these young people.
In foster care from the age of four, later adopted and abused, Stephan was in need of shelter and someone to encourage him. Within a month or two of his arrival to Covenant House, Stephan started working in the Street Outreach intern program. A year later he has finished his internship with Outreach, worked in the maintenance department and received a certification in landscape from the Greening of Detroit where he’ll begin working this spring. After receiving the basic necessities and a lot of love and encouragement, Stephan is on the road towards a successful, hopeful future! He is just one of the many success stories at Covenant House Michigan that are made possible by our generous donors.
We need to continue to help kids like Stephan succeed. I’m asking for your support once again. This year’s event will be held on October 24, 2014 at Penna’s in Sterling Heights. Evening's Emcee is Channel 7's Vic Faust. Entertainment graciously donated by Motif.
