"The ability to sleep out for just one cold night also makes all of this real to those of us who spend the night. Each time it is a very moving and humbling experience that gives us an opportunity to understand at some very small but important level, the true meaning of the Covenant House Michigan mission.” Sam Slaughter, SO:EE Event Chair 2015
“There was a young man that continues to stay in my mind to this day. After dinner and speaking to the kids during the first year I took part in the Sleep Out, my heart was truly heavy and my head was spinning. As I was searching for a place to set my box, my temporary bed for the night, a young man approached me. He came over and wanted to give me advice on how to arrange my box so the wind wouldn’t blow into the box and make my night uncomfortable. He gave me tips he had learned over the years having to sleep on the streets. It was both humbling and heartbreaking to realize he had slept on the streets for so many nights, but was so concerned with me being comfortable for just one night. It was truly an example of the kids' hearts at CHM. They have learned that they can use their stories and experiences to help others and now it’s about more than just them; it’s about the next person we can help.” Daniel Russell, SO:EE Event Chair 2016
“We are all busy in our day-to-day lives, but some people are hungry and hopeless all day long. We must open our eyes and see the truth about homelessness.” Jacqueline Wilson, SO:EE Honorary Event Chair 2014
“As a mother of three young adults, it’s heartbreaking to know of the homeless youth in our state who have nowhere to turn for a safe place to sleep. I am honored to lend my voice in support of the critically important work Covenant House is doing to raise awareness and help provide Michigan’s homeless youth with the secure housing that they deserve.” First Lady Sue Snyder, SO:EE Honorary Event Chair 2014
